At the Hawaiʻi Electromagnetic Geophysics Lab (HEMGL), we specialize at imaging the Earth’s interior using electrical and electromagnetic methods. Our lab is integrated into the Hawaiʻi Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (HIGP) and is closely linked to the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) collaborates closely with the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC), the Hawaiʻi Groundwater and Geothermal Resources Center (HGGRC) and the Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes (CSAV). Our cross-disciplinary approach promotes engaging research activities with many other Earth Science disciplines to improve our process understanding of the Earth’s crust.
Currently, our main research topics are:
- Coastal Groundwater Interactions
- Seafloor Massive Sulfide Exploration
- Groundwater contamination
- Offshore Freshened Groundwater
- Geophysical Modeling and Inversion
- Data Integration through Machine Learning
Past and current study areas include the Mediterranean Sea, North and Baltic Sea, Gulf of Corinth, Atlantic Ocean, North Pacific, Malta, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Israel, Azerbaijan, New Zealand, Gulf of Cadiz and of course Hawaiʻi.
